Get Ready for Editors Day 2018

By: Katie Hearns

It’s almost time for Editors Day everyone! This year there will be six editors coming to visit this quarter for portfolio reviews and to give insight into the comics industry. Make sure you fill out the Editors Day Application form which is due Monday April 23 at 5PM, printed out completely and placed in the box outside Haymans Hall room 307.

In addition to preparing a portfolio, I highly recommend researching the editors and companies that they will be representing. I wanted to provide some general information about each of the editors but definitely do your own individual research as well.

Bobbie Chase- DC Comics

Bobbie has worked at DC for a while now and has been editor over several books such as the New 52 runs of Teen Titans, Red Hood and the Outlaws and Nightwing. She works closely with the DC Talent Development program and is leading DC’s new young adult lines DC Ink and DC Zoom.

Fabrice Sapolsky- Humanoids Publishing

Humanoids is a company that publishes both French and American comics. Fabrice is currently a Senior Editor at the company.

Andrea Colvin- Lion Forge

Lion Forge is a publisher that focuses on creating “comics for everyone” and strives for creating diverse comics. They have several imprints, Lion Forge, Roar, and Cub House, each focusing on different age groups. Andrea oversees Roar and Cub House which are for children and teens.

Whitney Leopard- BOOM! Studios

Boom has four different imprints, BOOM! Studios, BOOM! Box, KaBOOM!, and Archaia, and produces both creator owned titles and licensed properties. Whitney has worked on several Adventure Time comics, Lumberjanes, and Bravest Warriors.

Robyn Chapman-First Second Books

First Second Books is a publisher which works with creator owned titles focused on younger audiences. Robyn also has experience with self publishing and mini comics.

Andy Schmidt- Source Point Press

Andy has worked for a variety of companies as a writer, editor and is the founder of Comics Experience which offers instruction on various aspects of comic creation. Comics Experience is a partner of Source Point Press.

This should be enough information to start your search but do your own research as well! Best of luck and turn in those forms!
